Mike Habat is a photographer based in Charleston, SC. Though his usual subject is architecture, he shoots a variety of subjects for commercial and editorial clients, all with a clear and elegant aesthetic.

California-born, South Carolina-raised, I was drawn to design and photography at an early age. My grandfather was a beloved coach, teacher, and historian of the Slovenian immigrant community and heavily influenced my love of photography, design, and history more broadly. My pastimes led me down a creative path to a career as a graphic designer and subsequently, an independent photographer.

I began my college career as a civil engineering student and ended with degrees in mass communications and anthropology. This scenic route through university not only showed me what I didn’t want to do, it helped me refine my interests and over time, truly devote myself to the craft. Photographing my travels, exceptional architecture, historic preservation initiatives, and remarkable interior design is what drives me. I can’t help but think of the old addage, “Do what you love…”.
